What is happening in Canada to coincide with the US deployment of CMAS ?
The Common Alerting Protocol (CAP) was developed in the U.S and has since been adopted by the UN-ITU as an international. A Canadian Profile for CAP (CAP-CP) has been drafted. CAP-CP documents are currently posted on http://www.ic.gc.ca/eic/site/et-tdu.nsf/eng/wj00268.html The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) who regulates and supervises the Canadian broadcasting and telecommunications systems made a few decisions regarding public alerting. Broadcast Order CRTC 2009-340 approved Pelmorex Communications Inc. as a national aggregator and distributor of emergency alert messages. The national aggregation and distribution (NAAD) system is designed to receive messages from warning originators and deliver them using non-proprietary technology and available free-of-charge to broadcast distribution undertakings (BDUs), ie. cable and satellite service providers. BDU participation in NAAD is voluntary.
