What is Ham Radio and who are Radio Amateurs (hams)?
Radio Amateurs (hams) are individuals interested in making wireless, radio contacts, especially transcontinental ones. To make those radio contacts with other hams they need to pass legal examination by local authorities confirming their operating skills and knowledge of physics, electronics and many other aspects involved. The primary use of ham radio communication is like a very interdisciplinary hobby with a bit of sport-like competition. However the ham radio, since its creation is being of charge of delivering help and support during critical events like floods, earthquakes and any other natural and non-natural disasters serving a wireless communication between different services providing help. Since their communication network does not depend on any cellular, ground line or internet networks, they often become the only linkage during critical situations worldwide.
