What is Haitian art work like?
Hatian art work is very colourful, there’s a lot of work with iron, and papier mache, a lot of masks. It’s a good thing and it makes people take Haiti seriously, and their people seriously. We can’t let them fall apart, we can’t let them disappear and that means sharing a little of our extraodinary wealth as a nation, and the more tourism they have, the better off they’ll be. For those who aren’t in a public position, it’s easy to feel helpless and apathetic in situations like these. What can the average person do to help? Talking about it helps, doing research, telling your peers. People can raise money on their own. You can have a dinner party and make it a topic and serve Haitian food which is delicious! Has APJ lobbied the United States government for help? I’ve tried to get the world bank involved and have one of their representatives meet Father Rick Frechette and see the work he’s doing and hopefully fund his projects.
