What is gynaecological cancer?
Gynaecological cancers affect womens reproductive system. The commonest gynaecological cancers arise from the ovary, cervix and endometrium (lining of the womb). In 2006 there were 596 new cases of gynaecological cancer diagnosed in the Avon, Somerset and Wiltshire Cancer Services Network area including 46 cases in Bath and North East Somerset, 118 in Bristol, 66 in North Somerset, 193 in Somerset, 80 in South Gloucestershire and 63 in Wiltshire (source Cancer Registry SWCIS). These figures are based on new diagnoses of gynaecological cancer in 2006. As part of the review we are working to confirm 2007 figures including total referrals as well as diagnosed cancer. 2) What gynaecological cancer treatments/services are currently being provided in Bath and Bristol?
