What is GSD Technology and how is it used to mine Gold Sands deposits?
GSD Technology (or Gold Sands Development Technology) is an improved, green and clean method that has only recently come on line. It eliminates the long lead times and all the environmental, permitting and cost problems of open-pit, heap-leach operations. The technology is the product of years of development in dredging, pumping and non-chemical processing by MTI Holland (a division of IHC Merwede, a world market leader in the construction of sophisticated and specialized dredgers). Non-chemical processing isn’t new in itself; it’s old and it’s proven. But the recent, leap-forward improvements in the technology are turning previously uneconomical deposits into valuable ore. They’ve made it profitable to recover gold at grades almost an order of magnitude lower than with open-pit heap-leaching. GSD Technology is ideal for Gold Sands deposits because, while such deposits contain some variation in grade, they are more or less homogeneous and invite bulk handling methods. And, given their
