An independent, third-party verification that a building meets standards tailored for California by Build It Green, based in Berkeley. Developments are rated in five categories: energy conservation, water usage, conservation of resources such as wood, metals and fossil fuels during construction, indoor air quality and community benefits. Entry into the program is less rigorous than LEED certification, but is also available for the greenest of homes.
