if you mean the Greek Orthodox faith, it is a variety of Catholicism. Around the 11th century, the Christian faith split into western and eastern groups. The western group (centered in Rome) developed into the Roman Catholic church (and later into the numerous protestant sects), while the eastern group developed into the Orthodox tradition. Each claims (of course) to be the one true church, and considers the other to be somewhat heretical.
