What is grass sod?
Grass sod is actually real grass that has been professionally grown on farms just like any other crop. Many grass sod farmers cultivate a variety of grasses on a single property, from the more popular Bermuda sod and centipede sod to the less well known zoysia sod, dolly sod, tall fescue sod, diclofenac sod, and St. Augustine sod. The fact that it is professionally farmed rather than just grown haphazardly in a lawn means that grass sod grows dense and lush, and has been well watered and cared for so that it has strong, mature root systems when it is harvested. The harvesting process consists of simply cutting the field of grass into strips or squares, and then slicing into the soil an inch or two to ensure that the grass comes up with its root system intact. There are many different sod farms throughout the country, including Sod Busters Turf, Inc., and AG Sod Farms, which is a very large and well-known farm in Northern California.
