Threatened or endangered or vulnerable medicinal plants species are being attempted to be protected in various ways. In situ and Ex situ conservation, development of Agro-techniques for cultivation of plants of medicinal importance for commercial use, banning export of endangered species or their extracts or products made therefrom and encouraging the farmers for propagation and cultivation of commercially viable medicinal plants are, some of the very important steps taken by the Government to preserve the Indian species and to make these available for sustainable use. Restrictions are imposed for rampant deforestation and collection of raw materials of medicinal importance from the wild sources.
