What is gothic music?
It is probably no surprise to anyone reading this site that I love gothic music and culture. As with most genres of music though, it is very difficult to explain what it is that makes music fit that style. Goth (or gothic) music is no exception to the rule. The easiest way to understand what makes up a particular genre is to listen to a lot of music from that genre and make up your own mind. Many academics have devoted good time into the research of music genre and have tried to enlighten the listener with various essays. The reality is of course that the average listener doesn’t give a shit what genre particular bands belong to provided they know what they do and don’t like.
