The best way to keep these rodents out is to spend the money on metal containers with metal lids to keep your feed in. Poison is not advised because it may contaminate the feed no matter how careful you are with it. Cats are a good idea, they have been rat catchers since who knows when. But you have to keep the cat hungry enough to want to catch the rats.
