Carolsandytoes1, Treacle and Golden Syrup are NOT the same thing. However I know it can be confusing as some recipes and products that contain the word Treacle in their name are actually made with Golden Syprup. Golden Syrup is similar to the US inverted sugar syrup, whilst Treacle is more akin to a rich dark molasses. The major brand here in the UK (and what Harry Potter would have) is Tate and Lyle.
