What is going on when a patient complains of eye pain?
Pain in the eye should be taken seriously and can be an alarm signal for serious disease. At times sicca patients also complain about pain in the eyes without there being another disease behind this. However, it is possible that the patient has acute glaucoma which poses an acute threat to vision. In these very rare cases the patient is recommended to see an ophthalmologist or visit an eye hospital immediately as a matter of urgency.
