What is Global Trade Item Number (GTIN) and what is used for?
Global Trade Item Number (GTIN) is a unique way to identify products/services/locations in the trading cycle to facilitate business efficiency. By printing a barcode which represents the GTIN and using a scanner to ‘read’ the barcode, information about the product can be captured instantaneously and accurately. GTINs are also used for electronic transmission (Electronic Data Interchange) of product information between trading partners.
