Geographic Information Systems (GIS) integrates spatial data (maps) and tabular data (informational databases) through computer technology. By linking these two together to create a variety of themed layers, GIS can provide a complete overview of the City’s infrastructure. In doing so, GIS revolutionizes the way that information can be used. GIS is one of the basic building blocks of the City’s technology offerings. Our goal is to deploy GIS throughout the organization, improving the way services are delivered to residents and City staff. To this end, we support the databases, develop applications, and provide technical assistance to a growing base of GIS users.
