What is genital human papillomavirus (HPV)?
HPV is the most common sexually transmitted virus in the United States. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), every year 6.2 million people in the U.S. get infected every year. There are about 20 million people in the U.S. living with this virus. While most HPV infections do not cause any symptoms, it can cause cervical cancer. It can also cause genital warts and warts in the upper respiratory tract.
