What is “Functional Training”?

0

Functional Training is working out using exercises that help to perform daily chores or sports with ease. Training functionally is very essential if one wants to excel in sports. One becomes much stronger with functional training than with machine training.

Functional training is training with a purpose or target activity in mind. Unlike traditional forms of strength or power training which focuses on isolation of specific muscles, functional training in simplest terms is integrated, proprioceptively enriched multi-directional movement. It is based on training in all three planes of movement at varying levels, speeds and rhythms.

Contrary to traditional strength training, functional (strength) training does not focus on developing aesthetically nice muscles, but rather on movement training that will help people be better prepared for the demands of daily life activities, on the job activities, and sports performance.
