What is full, incremental and differential backup?

0

Full backup contain all data at the moment of backup creation. It forms a base for further incremental or differential backup or is used as a standalone archive. A full backup has the shortest restore time as compared to incremental or differential ones. Incremental backup file only contain data changed since the last full or incremental backup creation. it is smaller and takes less time to create. If one full image and several incremental were created, all of these images must be saved in the same folder in order to be able to restore the data. If one of incremental images or full image is deleted, there is no way to restore the set, since all images are dependent on each other. Differential backup creates an independent file, containing all changes against the initial full archive. To restore a differential image, Acronis True Image must match the differential image with the original image.
