What is front desk in a hotel?
The front desk checks people in and out of the hotel, [depending on the hotel] makes reservations, keeps track of the day’s numbers [how many rooms available, the room rate]. The job involves a lot of customer service, time on the phone & computer, money handling, data entry and keeping track of paperwork. You’re responsible for making and maintaining business contacts [companies will frequently use one hotel and in doing so, receive a special rate for their employees], keeping the noise level down, arranging blocks of rooms for large groups. Depending on the hotel, you can wear MANY hats if you work the front desk….especially if the hotel is short staffed. I worked the front desk and would also be required to fill in for the van driver, assistant manager, train new employees, inspect rooms, deliver items personally to guests’ rooms.
