What is France known for?
Its known for a great many things. Its been one of the world’s great centers of art and home to a host of famous artists including Degas, Monet, David, Lautrec, Picasso (actually Spanish but he lived in Paris), Gauguin, and scores of others. It was, for centuries, the most powerful country on the European continent and the history of Europe, and indeed, the world, cannot be told without talking about France. It is the home of many of the great philosophical and political ideas. Its form of law, derived from the Code Napoleon, is the most influential in the world. The Enlightenment, which inspired the American Revolution, was greatly influenced by Frenchman like Didertot, Baron d’Holbach, Quesney, and Rousseau. It has been a driving and creative force in science and technology. The Metric system is French. Without the work of French scientists such as Curie, Pasteur, and Lavoisier modern science and medicine would not exist. It remains one of the great centers of science in the world to
