What is Foreshortening?

“All right, welcome to the “How to draw a human body in perspective”, and foreshortening, and all that stuff. Before I get into sketching, I want to explain what foreshortening is. When you’re looking at somebody; your perspective, and maybe they’ve got their hand far out; closer. Like if I do this and then you see my hand behind. This hand’s bigger, and this hand is smaller. That’s called foreshortening. Now I’m going to explain how that works in perspective. Basically, in the past you’ve done boxes in perspective. You’ve got your box; your basic box in two point. Then it’s going to a vanishing point. Like this box; the vanishing point is running this way, then running this way.
