What is foot and nail fungus?
Athlete’s Foot (Tinea pedis) is a skin disease caused by a fungus, usually occurring between the toes. The fungus most commonly attacks the feet because shoes create a warm, dark, and humid environment which encourages fungal growth. If it becomes established it can get under the nails and become exceedingly difficult to treat. The symptoms of athlete’s foot are drying skin, itching scaling, inflammation, and a distinctive smell. Left untreated, it can spread to the groin and underarms. How did I get it? The warmth and dampness of areas around swimming pools, showers, and locker rooms, are also breeding grounds for fungi.
