What is Food Borne illness?
Food borne illness (also called food poisoning) occurs when a person gets sick by consuming a food that contains microorganisms (bacteria, viruses, parasites, etc.) If food is mishandled, these microorganisms will multiply and can cause food borne illness if the food is consumed. These microorganisms can be naturally present on the food but most get there by cross -contamination from various sources including humans and other food items. These microorganisms can be controlled by safe food handling practices.
