What is Fluid Simulation?
The term fluids is used to describe liquids and gases that play an important role in everyday life, with examples ranging from the weather, ocean waves and flooding right through to smoke and explosions. Even simply pouring a glass of water. Fluid Simulation (also known as Computational Fluid Dynamics or CFD) is a tool in computer graphics for generating realistic animations of fluids and related phenomena. A specialised fluid simulator uses the Navier Stokes equation (which describes the physics of fluids) to calculate the motion of the fluid over time, we then combine this with our experience of computer generated special effects to create simulations of fluids and gases which are not only more accurate but also more photo-realistic.
