What is Flexible Spending Account?
Flexible Spending Accounts are accounts typically funded on a pre-tax basis through employee salary reductions arrangement. Any and all amounts in the account unused as of the end of the year must be forfeited. This is known as the use it or lose it rule. Flexible Spending Accounts are typically an employer offered health reimbursement arrangement also called a cafeteria plan.
