What is flexible scheduling?
Flexible scheduling means there is not a designated time each week for students to visit the media center. Instead, media center time is scheduled in conjunction with classroom activities. The classroom teacher and the media coordinator collaboratively plan instruction and use of resources in the media center based on student learning needs in each curriculum unit. This means students may visit the media center for an hour five days in a row and may not return to the media center for instruction for a few weeks. Flexible scheduling gives students open access during the instructional day to check in and check out books from the media center. How often will children check out books? Children may check out books when they finish reading the books they have. Some students may choose to visit the media center daily while others may visit less frequently.
