What is Fleet 5?

0

Established in 1959 by Dr. Randall Bell, Fleet 5 was the fifth fleet to be granted a charter by the Class Secretary of the Rhodes 19 Class Association. Like all R19 fleets, Fleet 5 is self-governing, elects its own officers, and abides by the rules and regulations of the Class Association. Fleet 5 races out of Marblehead Massachusetts, and is the largest active fleet of Rhodes 19’s in the country. Is Fleet 5 the only fleet in Massachusetts? No. In addition to Marblehead, there are active fleets in Rockport, Gloucester, Winthrop, Hingham and Padanaram. There is also an inactive fleet of 10-15 boats in Manchester, and rumor has it that a fleet is organizing in Hull. The largest fleets outside of Massachusetts are located in New Orleans, Chicago, Newport and Hawaii.
