What is Flanking?
Flanking noise describes both impact and airborne noise that transmits through the fabric of a building. This can be reduced by isolation of surfaces such as floors, walls and ceilings. Floating Floors The term floating floor can be used to describe a resilient layer such as the Monarfloor Deck 9 or the Tri Deck which is deisgned to be installed without the use of nails or glue, but floats completely independently of any existing floor or joists. Floating floors can be used on both concrete or timber constructions and can be finished with tiles, hardwood, laminate flooring and carpet. It is very important to ensure that all floating floors are isolated from surrounding surfaces to reduce flanking. Resilient Bars Resilient bars can be very effective in helping reduce impact noise passing through an area by creating mechanical isolation. Wall Sockets It is important to seal any penetrations within an area to reduce sound leakage. This can be done using a purpose designed socket box or by
