What is flamenco from Triana like?
I’m too young to have lived the time of the courtyards. But I remember my father and my grandfather talking about those courtyards and how people used to get together and sing and dance in them. They told me how my grandfathers wedding lasted three days and the gipsy women all wore Manila shawls that Pastora Imperio has brought. It’s like seeing a film in your head because someone very close to you is telling you about it. You live it so much that you can imagine it. It’s like I was there. And does that all sound or used to sound in any special way? Flamenco sounds special depending who performs it. You don’t sing better because your from Seville or from Madrid or Badajoz. Everybody has their own way of doing flamenco, each has their public and they decide. When you sell out concerts it’s because you are good and people like what you do. It doesn’t matter if you are from Seville, Utrera, Barcelona or anywhere else. Flamenco is free. Good flamenco makes your hair stand on end even if yo
