What is firmware?
The software that controls the operation of your DVD player. Sometimes it is necessary for this to be upgraded to a newer version in order to improve performance or to address issues with certain DVD titles. For instructions on how to view your firmware details, see the Firmware Version page. 5.2 After displaying the firmware screen the setup of my player has changed. This is because displaying the firmware screen causes many setting to revert to their factory default. This includes; TV Aspect, TV Output, Pseudo PAL, Region Code, etc. Therefore you will need to change these back to your preferred settings. 5.3 After displaying the firmware screen I only get sound and no picture during playback. In which case you are probably using an S-video lead to connect your DVD player to your TV. The TV Output mode has now reverted to it’s default setting, to set it back see the Firmware Version page.
At its base, firmware is the programing of an electonic device. It’s the hard-coded software that controls a unit. When a company wants to upgrade a feature, fix a problem or make the device more compatible to a technology, it will release a firmware update for the device. For some of you with a wireless router, you may need to update your router’s firmware to connect to Nintendo WiFi Connection. Even if you just bought your router, you may be surprised to find that its manufacturer already has a software update waiting for it on the company’s Web site. You’ll download the firmware update and update your router.
