What is Firefighter PPE?
Structural firefighters PPE consists of: • Turnout gear – The turnout gear, also known as protective clothing, includes fire suits, turnout trousers and turnout coats or tunics. The turnout gear is designed for structural fire fighting to protect mainly against heat and flame. • Fire helmets – Helmets provide head protection against hazards that wearers may come into contact with while performing their required roles, however fire helmets need to be able to provide this protection at greatly increased temperature levels. • Gloves – Gloves are worn by firefighters to provide protection and prevent injuries to the hands during firefighting activities.
