What is Fire Truck?
Fire Truck is a 12 page board book (including front and back covers as pages) in the shape of a ladder truck. Like Dump Trucks, also published by DK, this book has very nice photographs of the various trucks named, in most cases being used in what appears to me to be actual fire-fighting and rescue use. Each page introduces one or two vocabulary words, along with a sentence explaining their function. What we like We love the pictures. They’re very clear, and seeing the engines in actual use is a great bonus. Although it might seem scary to see actual firefighters with actual fires, it isn’t scary to our 3-year-old at all. I think it’s probably because no picture shows any obvious person in distress, and the fires shown are in an unidentifiable industrial building and an empty field. I don’t think he really can extrapolate anything dangerous from that.
