What is FCAT WRITING?
The FCAT writing assessment given in Grades 4, 8, and 10 is an essay which requires students to write a response and a new section with multiple choice questions. Students will not receive scores for the field test portion of FCAT Writing+. Each student will receive a score for the essay portion. At what grade levels must students pass the FCAT? • Grade 3 students must earn an FCAT Reading score of Level 2 or higher on a scale of 1 – 5 in order to be promoted to Grade 4. • Grade 5 students must pass the FCAT Reading and Math with a level 2 or higher. • Grade 8 students must pass the FCAT Reading and Math with a level 2 or higher. Writing and Science exams are taken into account for promotion. • Graduating seniors must pass both the Reading and Mathematics sections of the Grade 10 FCAT to graduate from high school with a standard high school diploma.
