What is fatty liver disease, and is it painful?
Fatty liver disease is when you have fat in your liver. It is a fairly common problem, and it can have many different underlying causes. It may or may not be serious, depending on what is causing it, and how advanced it is. It may produce symptoms and there may some local pain, or feeling of fullness if there is a lot of fat and the liver is enlarged. The question that has to be answered is what is causing it. One of the common causes is alcohol liver damage. The first stage of damage is often fat in the liver, and it may progress to cirrhosis and actual scarring, if the damage of alcohol continues. Usually, a biopsy will reveal what might be the underlying cause. Can cortisone shots cause long term problems if you get them too often? Cortisone belongs to the family of drugs we call steroids.
