What is fast recall of addition and subtraction math facts?
Fast recall is knowing the fact and saying it as easily as you can say your name. Fluency in math facts is essential to successfully working on complex 2 and 3 step problems. Fluency is defined as being able to answer 40 facts in a minute. These facts start out easy and then gradually mastered facts are replaced with 2 new facts per drill. We work on these facts daily and the children set their own goals. Our goal is to master all the addition facts and subtraction facts before 3rd grade. This is the year the children stop using their fingers, a number line, or touch math to solve basic facts. I am always excited to see their improvement over time.
