What is FAFSA, and how does my student apply?
FAFSA is a free online form that helps determine if students are eligible for need-based financial aid. Students must reapply for financial aid each school year. This includes filing the federal form (FAFSA) and supplying the Office of Student Financial Aid with any other forms they might request. The process can be started as early as January 1 for the next school year, or as soon as you have completed your federal tax returns. The Department of Education institutional code number required for the FAFSA for UW–Madison is 003895. For more information contact the Office of Student Financial Aid at 608-262-3060 or the FAFSA helpline at 1-800-433-3243.
