What is EZproxy and how does it work?

The library uses EZproxy to authenticate off-campus users to access restricted resources. Most of the links on the Buswell Memorial Library’s web site are not restricted but some links such as most database links are restricted. To access a restricted resource, off-campus users must login through EZproxy. When the off-campus user is authenticated or checked against the Wheaton College database of usernames and passwords, they will be granted access. When the off-campus user has been authenticated, the EZproxy proxy server then connects to the resource for the off-campus user. Since the proxy server is coming from on-campus, its IP address is accepted by the online resources.
