What is experimental microcode?
A. Experimental uCode is the WiFi uCode released by the Intel uCode team with the latest bug fixes to address issues being reported by external parties. The Experimental uCode has not gone through the full regression test procedures, and the goal is to address the issue(s) that can’t be easily reproduced within the internal testing environment. Each Experimental uCode package is tailor-made based on the user’s environment. The rule of thumb is: if user’s kernel is earlier than 2.6.35, compat-wireless is required to support new uCode format. If user already using mainline Linux kernel, then only supporting patches will be needed for “Experimental uCode”. If you want to use the bleeding edge experimental ucode, proceed to the experimental page.
