What is expected of me as a faculty advisor?
A. Faculty advisors are expected to give guidance in choosing courses and planning through the program of study, being open to talk with the students about academic problems that might arise, and help the student find resources that he or she needs to address those issues. Faculty advisors review student performance as measured by grades and help advise the student on things he or she might do to improve. In general, advisors should also offer a sympathetic ear to the student and help with problem solving. In addition, faculty advisors provide career advice to students. For additional information regarding course selection and degree requirements please see http://www.sph.umich.edu/biostat/programs/msmph.html (MS/MPH requirements), http://www.sph.umich.edu/biostat/programs/phd.html (PhD requirements), and/or talk to the student administration staff (Nicole Fenech). For additional information/guidance, please talk to your faculty mentor.
