Major winter storm on the way to Oklahoma but snow may be gone before Christmas Day FROM STAFF REPORTS The Oklahoman Published: December 22, 2009 Today will be the last morning of mild weather before a major winter storm rolls into the Panhandle later tonight. The National Weather Service said the approaching storm will initially produce widespread rain, including some thunderstorms, today. From late Wednesday into Thursday, forecasters said cold air will arrive causing a change to snow. Accumulating snow and blowing or drifting snow are most likely to affect northern Oklahoma. And as the storm exits, blustery winds will bring the coldest air yet this season. Sub-freezing weather and low wind chill temperatures may persist through the weekend, the weather service said. Temperatures Wednesday should range from the mid-30s in the Panhandle to the mid-60s in southeast Oklahoma. Brad Henry said. “This is a very serious winter storm and we want Oklahomans to stay safe.” Blizzard warnings have been issued for central and southwestern Oklahoma, including Oklahoma City, and parts of northwestern Texas.
