The more experience points (exp) you have, the higher rank you will become. Some items require you to be a certain rank to use them, therefore it is an advantage to be a high rank as you will have a bigger selection of weapons to chose from (e.g: the Muramasa and Plasma Sabre requires you to be at least “Soldier” rank [4000 exp]).
