What is exhaust-gas recirculation (EGR) and how does it work?

0

A small percentage of the exhaust gas is recirculated externally, cooled and then fed back into the combustion chamber. This process reduces the amount of nitrogen oxide in the exhaust gas. The lower levels of particulate matter required by Euro 5 legislation are reduced by means of the patented MAN PM-KAT filter, or by a diesel oxidation catalyst, depending upon truck model.
