The nitrogen partial pressure experienced at an actual depth on nitrox will be equal to the nitrogen partial pressure which would have been experienced at a, possibly, different depth had the dive been on air – the equivalent air depth (EAD). Using an EAD enables dives on nitrox to be planned using standard air tables.
