What is Environmental Scanning and Analysis?
Environmental scanning and analysis is a component of the strategic planning process. It’s a way to engaging Council and Administration in dealing with external trends and issues that could bring threats or opportunities to the organization. By continuously monitoring the external environment and events and responding accordingly, we can identify emerging changes early enough to gain advantage from them. We use the STEEP methodology of analyzing signals of change; that is, we investigate the Social/cultural, Technological, Economic (financial), Environmental, Political contexts of our external environment. This intelligence is vital to the Municipality of Chatham-Kent in a world of increasing change and uncertainty. The strategic planning and change management processes at the Municipality of Chatham-Kent are foundational to the evolution and development of the community.
