June 1, 2009 the dictionary contained: • 199 003 unique names • 1 506 403 different medicinal products, trade names with for example form and strength information added • 10 373 different ingredients mentioned in these products To be able to increase the coverage in a larger number of countries and to get fast access to information about new releases the UMC has entered collaboration with IMS Health. The result of this collaboration is called WHO Drug Dictionary Enhanced. IMS Health has a network of regional offices where the data are collected via a wide variety of published sources and by direct contact with product manufacturers. IMS Healt provides product information from 66 countries on all continents. The data contains OTC products and prescription products and covers nearly 100% of the products used in each country.
