What is Enerkems technology?
Enerkem’s green gasification and catalytic synthesis technology is the result of many years of research. The Enerkem process for converting wastes and residues into second-generation biofuels involves heat, pressure, advanced chemistry and the use of industry-provencatalysts. The process can be broken down into four steps: • Waste pre-treatment: sorting/recycling, drying, and shredding. • Gasification: this is the process of converting waste materials that contain carbon into a gas. This gas is called “syngas”, short for synthetic gas, and is a blend of hydrogen and carbon monoxide. The “gasification” or conversion of waste materials into gas takes less than 10 seconds. The process does not involve incineration or high temperature gasification. • Cleaning and conditioning of the synthetic gas: gas purification process. • Conversion to liquid fuel: In a process that has been compared to industrial magic, syngas is heated, pressurized and passed over proven catalysts which rearrange the
