What is EMT-Basic Class Like?
EMT-Basic class is an intense, college-level course that will require more reading and studying than your average high school course. Some of the topics covered include medical terminology, human anatomy, medicine administration, spinal immobilization, and bleeding control. The class prepares students for real-life situations through ample skill practice. Is it Really Free? Yes! The program is funded by HCFR. Textbooks, college tuition and necessary prerequisites are provided to enrolled students. Will I Have a Job After Graduation from HCC? Howard County Department Fire and Rescue cannot guarantee a job for students that successfully complete the program. However, HCFR is actively recruiting paramedics and hopeful that the program will provide a “pathway” for local students to work where they live.
