What is Email Forwarding?
Email forwarding involves passing email along from one address to another. It can also be used to pass groups of messages such as listservs. Email forwarding services automatically forward all mail received at one of your addresses to another address. This can be handy if you have a web based email alias but would rather not have to surf to the website each day to check your mail. Using a forwarding service, the mail received at the website would automatically be passed to your main email address (or another address of your choice). This allows you the convenience of utilizing multiple email addresses while keeping your main email address private, and still collecting all of your mail in one place. Mail forwarding services are also handy for people that change their ISP (and therefore main email address) often. With some forwarding services, you are simply give out our one address no matter what ISP you have; the address might look something like: yourname@forwarding-service-provider.c
Email Forwarding directs all email sent to a domain email address to another email address. For example, if your domain name is mydomain.com, you could set up sally@mydomain.com and have that email forward to sally123@lycosmail.com, or wherever you have email service. If you want a catchall email address for your domain, enter a * or default in the email address field. By doing so, all incoming email that does not match the addresses you’ve established for your domain will be accessible from your catchall account. Please Note: If you add email forwards to a domain which already has one or more POP/IMAP email accounts, this change can take up to a few hours to take effect.
Email forwarding sends your email to another address that you provide. Instead of your mail going into your Yahoo! Inbox, it’s forwarded to the other account’s inbox so you can check it there. While forwarding is “on,” you won’t get any mail in your Yahoo! account. With Mail Plus, you can: • Automatically forward your Yahoo! Mail to another email account—even another Yahoo! address. • Use Outlook, Eudora, or another POP3 client to access and manage your Yahoo! Mail, or… • Use your Yahoo! account to check and send mail from those accounts.
As it sounds, email forwarding takes place when you have email that is sent to one email address, forwarded to another email address. For instance, you can have email that is sent to your web hosting email address, yourusername@yourdomainname, forwarded to your Internet Access email address youxyz89@somebodyelse.com.
