What is Ellis Island in New York City best known for?
It was most importantly the cite where immigrants coming from Europe came to be processed when entering the United States. Many people visit Ellis Island to not only learn about immigration, but also to use the machines they have there to look for records of their ancestors that had come through. It is common to find a grandfather or great-grandfather that had come over from Europe in the records somewhere if you know their name and approximate year of arrival.
