what is Elgin Avenue Breakdown Revisited?
It’s furious pub rock that’s held together by Joe’s patented fiery vocal delivery. The 101ers are a very powerful outfit that barely stops to catch its collective breath. Quite frankly, I was marvelously surprised at how good the sound quality, both on the live tracks and the studio tracks, was for this album. I expected something flat, scratchy, and full of white noise, but that simply is not the case. Clash fans that only like Joe for his punk music will be put off by the unapologetic nature of the rockin’ rhythm ‘n blues found on Elgin Avenue Breakdown Revisited, but fans of pub rock in it’s purest form, and those who appreciate the unmatched energy Joe Strummer is able to provide every song he graces will certainly find this collection to be a hell of a good time. Now, if only I could decide which version of “Keys To Your Heart” I love more…
